The History
Pan American Airways founder, Juan Trippe, founds the InterContinental® brand, embarking on a vision to provide luxury accommodation at the end of every flight.
The first InterContinental hotel opens in Belem, Brazil. Almost 50 years before the InterContinental brand becomes part of the IHG family – the brand is born.
Intercontinental San Diego located on historic waterfront on Lanes Field – the former baseball stadium of the San Diego Padres from 1936 through 1957. Intercontinental San Diego which opened September 2018, stands 19 stories high and has 400 guest rooms and suites, not to mention five on-site restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. The first West Coast location for Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse. Also, a fourth floor rooftop pool and sundeck; ; a Club InterContinental club lounge; and a 3,300-square-foot health and wellness center with a yoga terrace and state-of-the-art video wall for on-demand workout classes.
Meeting / Event Space
For groups, the new hotel boasts 95,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including 35,000 square feet of flexible indoor space with natural light in every room and 60,000 square feet of outdoor space, including multiple bay-view terraces and historic Lane Field Park. The hotel’s 12,000-square-foot Pacific Ballroom can host events of up to 1,500 people beside full-length windows that overlook San Diego’s iconic Santa Fe Depot and downtown.
